Atzara (Sardinian: Atzàra) is a comune (municipality) in the province of Nuoro in the Italian region of Sardinia, located approximately 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of Cagliari and approximately 45 kilometers (28 miles) south-west of Nuoro.
Atzara borders the following municipalities: Belvì, Meana Sardo, Samugheo, Sorgono.
Located in Barbagia, the original village dates back to around 1000 and developed near the source of the Bingia de Giosso, which still exists. The historic center is divided into the ancient districts of Su Fruscu, Lodine, Montiga and Josso, Montiga and Susu, Sa Cora Manna, Su Cuccuru de Santu Giorgi and Tzùri. It was part of the Giudicato of Arborea.
