Province of Oristano, Sardinia, Italy
Montresta is a comune (municipality) in the province of Oristano in the Italian region of Sardinia, located approximately 140 kilometers (87 miles) north-west of Cagliari and approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) north of Oristano. As of December 31, 2004, it had a population of 594 and an area of 23.8 square kilometers (9.2 square miles).
In 1746 about fifty Greek families of Maniot descent residing in Cargèse (Corsica) emigrated to Sardinia, where they obtained from the territories of Carlo Emanuele III in the area of the Villa of San Cristoforo di Montresta to establish their new settlement. However, almost all the villagers were subsequently killed by the natives.
Montresta borders the following municipalities: Bosa, Villanova Monteleone, Padria.
