About Santa Marinella
Santa Marinella is a comune (municipality) in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio, located approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) north-west of Rome.
It includes the seaside resort of Santa Severa (the ancient Pyrgi) and a medieval castle.
In ancient times, Santa Marinella was the site of Aquae Caeretanae, a Roman seaside resort.
The actress Ingrid Bergman and the director Roberto Rossellini had a villa here.
The gypsy punk band, Gogol Bordello also has a song called "Santa Marinella" about Eugene Hutz's time in Santa Marinella while trying to get immigration to America.
The town is known for its "Wheels of Immigration" - a pretzel-like snack consumed by Russian Jewish immigrants who temporarily settled there in the late 1980s on their journey to the United States or Israel. [Citation needed]
