About Province of Benevento

The Province of Benevento (Italian: Provincia di Benevento) is a province in the Campania region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Benevento.

The province has an area of 2,071 kmĀ² and, as of 2017 , a total population of 279,308. There are 78 municipalities in the province (for the full list, see municipalities in the province of Benevento). The largest municipalities, the only over 10,000 inhabitants, are Benevento, Montesarchio, Sant'Agata de 'Goti and San Giorgio del Sannio.

The territory of the province of Benevento is very close to that of the Principality of Benevento between the mid and the end of the eleventh century. It borders with Molise (province of Campobasso) to the north, Puglia (province of Foggia) to the east, the province of Avellino and the metropolitan city of Naples to the south and the province of Caserta to the west.

The lowest point is located in the municipality of Limatola (44 meters above sea level), while the highest point is Monte Mutria (1822 meters), one of the mountains of the Matese chain, which separates the province of Benevento from Molise.
