About Province of Oristano

The Province of Oristano (Italian: province of Oristano, Sardinian: prov├Čntzia de Aristanis) is a province in the autonomous region of the island of Sardinia in Italy. Its capital is the city of Oristano. It has an area of 3,040 square kilometers (1,170 square miles), a total population of 160,746 (2016) and a population density of 53.7 people per square kilometer. There are 87 municipalities (municipalities) in the province.

The province of Oristano is the smallest province of Sardinia and was formed by sections of the provinces of Cagliari and Nuoro. It occupies roughly the same area as the Early Medieval Giudicato of Arborea. It borders on Nuoro, Cagliari and the Sardinian Sea. A large area of the coast of the province is part of the Gulf of Oristano and the territory of the province is mainly flat and there are some marshes. The province contains Santa Giusta (municipality) and Tharros (former city), both of which date back to the domain of the Carthaginian Republic area.

The city of Arborea was founded by the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini as Mussolinia to be an experimental city, for which the peasants were transferred from Emilia Romagna and Veneto. The Tirso river flows through the province of Oristano from the province of Nuoro, and its mouth is located in the Gulf of Oristano. I fear is the only other river that flows through the province. The city of Bosa is located in the region along a river and its medieval fortifications remain. The province of Oristano was founded in 1975 and was largely unaffected / not affected by tourism.

The province has a total of 87 municipalities, the largest of which are:
